Re: arabic linguist opportunity in Iraq

When you think doing your duty and serving your country justifies your participation in waging unjust wars, then you have a problem my friend.

In the quran, allah subhanahu wa ta3ala talked negatively about the people who followed fer3on's commands although fer3own is their leader.

فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ
(sooret azzukhruf verse#54)

Muhammad Ali Clay was one of the people who refused to go to the Vietnam war saying: "no Vietnamese called me "nigger", then why should I fight them". As for the war on iraq, I don't recall any iraqis killing americans.

Ali got into jail for that... May allah put that action on his rewards side.

 أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لا يُفْتَنُونَ
(sooret al 3ankaboot, verse#2)

I don't think there's an excuse to participate in the responsibility of killing around 500,000 humans (according to a research by Michigan univ) since the inception of war in iraq.

Many of us follow noble principles and ethics, one of which is "serving your own country". But what many of us forget that there are people who also exploit this fact by masquerading their unethical goals into ethical and justified principles.

To understand more why I brought up this subject, read below.

"... but also please remember that there are many people over there who don't believe in the invasion, but they are still doing their duty to their country ..."

Subject: Fwd: arabic linguist opportunity in Iraq

Upon reviewing my resume by recruiters, I received an email about a job opportunity with the US army in iraq as an arabic linguistic.

I would like to thank you for considering me for this job. However, I do not approve the unjust US invasion for Iraq.

For this reason I can not accept the invitation to apply for this job.

Sincerely yours,

Muneeb Arrabi

Hi Muneeb,

Thank you for your email even though you feel this position won't work for you.  I do want to say that this position is actually a civilian position, where you would be working very closely with the US military and Coalition forces to help with the communication.  And I actually do agree with your opinion, but also please remember that there are many people over there who don't believe in the invasion, but they are still doing their duty to their county and they need help to better complete their mission and stay safe in the process.

You are welcome to forward me your resume in a word document if you would like to be considered for future contracts.  Right now our main focus is the Arabic Linguist position in Iraq since that is where the need is, but there are other contracts that are available from time to time as well.  Again, I appreciate your email and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Beth Theiss

I think it's a lame excuse from her to say that you can accept the offer because some people over there in the American army don't believe in the invasion themselves.

I appreciate the fact that you replied to her in a short straightforward e-mail clearly expressing your opinion. If it were me, I would have written 100 angry lines. Sometimes short clear messages are needed.

En sha2 Allah you will be rewarded with an excellent job.

mmm did I say "lame excuse" instead of "convincing excuse" :)

Man, let them play their money as much as they like.., at least if you accepted the offer you'd know it's paid from the Iraqi oil...

I don't believe anyone with a heart would accept this offer. At least I hope so...
